Topic: Self-illness ambiguity and the role(s) of diagnoses

Speaker: Dr Sanneke de Haan

Socrates Professor of Psychiatry & Philosophy at Erasmus University Rotterdam and senior researcher at Tilburg University.

In this talk I will address self-illness and self-medication ambiguity in the context of people who suffer from recurring depressions. Self-illness and self-medication ambiguity refer to the difficulty of discerning how a psychiatric disorder and psychotropic medication influence one’s experiences. I will discuss some conceptual issues as well as some preliminary results from my qualitative study.
